Friends have told me for years that I should be offering my carvings for sale. I dipped my toes in the water a few times in the past year by donating a carving for a fund raising raffle and creating a website. This weekend, I nervously took the plunge by exhibiting a couple dozen carvings at the annual Bird and Wildlife Carving Exposition sponsored by the Audubon Society of Rhode Island. The carvers who have been participating at this expo for years declared that sales this year were unusually infrequent. Like most of the other carvers at the exposition, I sold a couple carvings. Even more satisfying than the sales were the looks of amazement and joy on the faces of people who spent time looking at my creations. My friends were right. I should have done this years ago! |
